Latvian Football federation (LFF) has announced the winners in 18 nominees overall as best in football in year 2008. "FK Ventspils" and Latvian national team goalkeeper Andris Vaņins was named as the best player in Latvia this season. Meanwhile, Ieva Bīdermane from national champions "Skonto/Cerība-46.vsk." team became the best female player in 2008. |

Latvian national futsal team head coach Artūrs Šketovs has announced 14 players list who will prepare for the first ever Baltic Futsal Cup tournament this weekend in Ogre Sports Centre hall.

Latvia held neighbours Estonia to a draw (1:1) in friendly match in Tallinn. Tarmo Kink shot Estonia in front early in the second half but 16 minutes from time Kristaps Grebis headed an equaliser to open his international account. This was captain Vitālijs Astefjevs 150th game for national team. |

After a dramatic draw 2:2 with "Skonto FC" in Riga, "FK Ventspils" secured the "LMT Highier league" title and became Latvian club football champions for the third straight year. Ukrainian coach Romāns Grigorčuks side leads the champions race with a gap of 11 points ahead of Skonto FC and three rounds left to play in this years Latvian championship.
