Twice-suspended cornerback Adam "Pacman" Jones will be on his own in his return to the NFL with the Dallas Cowboys. This time, there will be no team-employed bodyguards to accompany Jones and try to keep him out of trouble. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said Wednesday that the cornerback, who completed the inpatient portion of his NFL-ordered alcohol treatment in the Boston area, was being reinstated...
Agent: RB James wants release from Cards (AP)
Benched running back Edgerrin James wants the Arizona Cardinals to release him, his agent said Wednesday night. Cardinals general manager Rod Graves said the team declined to even consider such a move. Agent Drew Rosenhaus said he would continue to talk to the Cardinals to try to persuade them to grant James his release.
With leading rusher Earnest Graham out for the season, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will lean more on Warrick Dunn. Graham limped off the field with a right ankle sprain after his only carry during last week's victory over Minnesota and was placed on injured reserve Wednesday. That means a greater role in the offense for the 33-year-old Dunn.
Vikings' Allen fined $25K, not suspended (AP)
Minnesota Vikings defensive end Jared Allen has been fined $25,000 for a recent spate of late hits, but he won't be suspended. He's not planning to reduce his aggressiveness, either. After his summons to NFL headquarters in New York on Tuesday, Allen returned to Winter Park to continue resting and rehabilitating his sprained right shoulder.
WR Williamson wants to fight Childress (AP)
Former first-round draft pick Troy Williamson never really got along with coach Brad Childress in Minnesota. His feelings haven't changed since leaving there, either. Williamson, now in Jacksonville, said Wednesday he lost respect for his former coach last year and would like to "duke it out" with him when the Jaguars host the Vikings on Sunday.
Tony Romo is 1-0 since putting on a splint to protect his broken pinkie, and he may have to wear it for his next start -- and the one after that. But for a few throws Wednesday, Romo ditched the splint to see how close he might be to playing without it. "It's getting better," Romo said. "Every day that goes by it gets a little bit better.
The lawyer for three New Orleans Saints players facing suspension said Wednesday the NFL's independent drug adminstrator acknowledged he did not inform NFL players that the supplement StarCaps contained a banned diuretic. During the players' appeals hearing, attorney David Cornwell said that Dr. John Lombardo's testimony proved none of his clients -- Deuce McAllister, Will Smith or Charles Grant --...
6 Colts defensive starters miss practice (AP)
Six defensive starters missed Wednesday's practice for the Indianapolis Colts. Among those not participating were safety Bob Sanders, last season's defensive player of the year, defensive end Robert Mathis and middle linebacker Gary Brackett, the defensive captain. Coach Tony Dungy was uncertain about Sanders' status for Sunday's game at San Diego.
Chargers' disappointing WR Davis on IR (AP)
Oft-injured wide receiver Craig Davis, a disappointment in his two seasons with the San Diego Chargers, will miss the rest of the season with a groin injury. Davis was placed on injured reserve on Wednesday. Tackle Corey Clark was signed from the practice squad to take Davis' spot on the active roster.
Next season not even a thought for Favre (AP)
Brett Favre is having too much fun leading the first-place New York Jets to even think about next season. "I don't see how anyone, aside from you guys, can focus on next year when what we're trying to do right now is win and do something this year," Favre told reporters Wednesday. "I'm 39 years old. I know the better days are behind me, for the most part.
